25 Years Later: Remembering September 11 and the National Unity that Followed
FBMW honors the lives lost, the courage shown and the spirit of unity that brought Americans together in the aftermath of September 11, 2001
RICHMOND, INDIANA — First Bank Midwest joins communities across the nation today in solemn remembrance of the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost and recognizing the countless individuals whose lives were forever changed by the events of that day.
Twenty-five years later, September 11 remains a defining moment in our nation’s history. We remember the innocent lives lost in New York City, at the Pentagon and aboard Flight 93 in Pennsylvania. We honor the firefighters, police officers, emergency personnel, members of the military and ordinary citizens who responded with extraordinary courage, many placing the lives of others before their own.
We also remember what followed.
In the hours and days after unimaginable tragedy, Americans came together. Communities supported one another, neighbors cared for neighbors, and differences that too often divide us gave way to a shared sense of compassion, resilience and common purpose.
“Twenty-five years later, many of us can still remember exactly where we were when we learned what was happening on September 11,” said Chris Cook, President and CEO of First Bank Midwest. “We remember the tremendous loss and heartbreak of that day, but we should also remember the remarkable courage, compassion and unity that followed. For a time, we were simply Americans, standing together and supporting one another. As we honor those whose lives were lost or forever changed, I hope we also carry forward that spirit of unity and remember the strength that can be found when we choose to care for one another and work toward a common purpose.”
For First Bank Midwest, the anniversary is also an opportunity to recognize the important role communities play during moments of both hardship and hope. As a community bank serving communities throughout Indiana and Ohio, First Bank Midwest remains committed to strengthening relationships, serving its neighbors and contributing to the places its employees and customers call home.
On this 25th anniversary, First Bank Midwest encourages its employees, customers and communities to pause and remember those who were lost, honor those who answered the call to serve, and reflect upon the unity and compassion that emerged from one of our nation’s darkest days.
Today, we remember September 11, 2001. We honor the lives lost. And we carry forward the spirit of unity that followed.
